Background
Pfizer is pleased to announce the 2009 funding of the Global Research Awards for Nicotine Dependence (GRAND), with a mission to:
  • Advance the understanding of the mechanisms of tobacco and nicotine dependence and its treatment.
Scope of the Program for 2009
  • Human laboratory (eg, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, cravings, withdrawal)
  • Pharmacotherapy of smoking cessation and relapse, and/or its interaction with behavioral support
  • Characterization of subtypes of smokers and appropriate interventions.
Awards
It is anticipated that 6 awards will be granted in August 2009. These awards will have an upper limit of US$150,000 and are open to all researchers. Award recipients will be chosen by a board of international reviewers who are all recognized leaders in the field of nicotine dependence and smoking cessation.
